Not sure what to wear? Take a look at our style guide to help you get the best out of your family photography session!

Deciding what to wear for your session may seem hard, but we have some tips for you to make it easier!

Keep clothing plain and simple with little to no pattern on them. This will ensure that it will match the setting and focus on your beautiful faces. Light patterns are generally okay but the bolder the colours, the more distracting it will be. I would recommend to focus more on textures as they photograph really well! Think lace, linen and knits! Avoid clothing with bold writing and logos as this is more distracting.

Try to remember to take your hair ties or fit watches off your wrist before your session. (Otherwise we will remind you!) This will give any marks on your skin a chance to fade.

Be sure to remove any temporary tattoos from your kids arms and keep at eye on your nail polish. Remove any that is chipped and make sure you are happy with the colour.

YES

  • Textures: Lace, Linen, Knits
  • Muted tones
  • Fresh nail polish

NO

  • Big text or logos
  • Hair ties on wrists
  • Things in pockets

Our client wardrobe

Here are some recommended colours that will suit our settings. We aim for muted soft, colours. We also have a range of outfits for ladies and children that you are most welcome to use!

Our kids clothing range starts from a size 000 to 1.

For older children, you can still follow the same guideline on colours with no bold writing. Dresses, skirts, pants, t-shirts and jumpers are all fine to wear! Please see below for some examples.

Baby has arrived! You’re all set, you’ve booked in your newborn session and are really looking forward to it! Baby’s skin has been perfect for days, BUT the day before your session, baby’s skin becomes red and flaky. You may be able to see it on their face, hands and feet. You look at newborn photos on the internet and their skin is soooo smooth.

So….What do you do?

I know where you are coming from, you’ve been looking forward to this day for so long and you want your baby to look their best. You’re investing money into creating some beautiful photos for your home and capturing this stage in your baby’s life.

You’ll be happy to know that we can fix your baby’s skin when editing your photos. If you would rather us leave your baby’s skin as is, that’s totally fine, just let us know! We still keep skin tones looking as natural as possible and we still preserve the texture and shadows.

Here is a before and after:

Did you know..

Babies are born covered in amniotic fluid, during your pregnancy, a layer or vernix will form outside of your baby’s skin. Vernix acts as protection from the amniotic fluids. When baby is born, the fluids are wiped off their body and they go from being surrounded with fluids, to living outside the womb and being exposed to dry air. This is when baby will begin to shed their skin.
The interesting part is that premature babies have more vernix on their skin, which means they tend to peel less than babies that are born late. This flaky skin will go away on it’s own, so you don’t have to worry.

Tips to help your baby’s skin

  • Give them short baths with bath oil
  • Use lukewarm water, not hot
  • Don’t use “soap”. Instead, use a baby cleanser
  • Apply baby moisturiser

I hope this puts your mind at ease!

Have you booked in for your photo session, but are worried that your baby will cry the whole time?

I know that the first few weeks at home can be hard and I’m sure that you haven’t slept as much as you would have wanted to! Sometimes, things don’t always run smoothly. You may find that after a few days of being at home, your baby spends so much more time awake and unsettled. You’ve fed them, changed them, burped them, rocked them at all hours of the night and you couldn’t imagine them being okay for 2 hours in a studio session.

Most babies become unsettled at some point during their session!

And that’s totally normal!

Even though you scroll through hundreds of sleepy newborn photos on the internet, did you know that most of them have become unsettled at some point during their session? I VERY rarely have a baby who sleeps the entire time.

And most of the time, you don’t understand why they are crying.
Think about this – they have been super cosy in your womb for the past 9 months and all of a sudden, they are out in the world, multiple people touching them, there are all these different noises, they are being dressed, undressed, they become hungry, they need to burp. Their world has been completely changed! I get it!

But, your baby is in safe hands! We would hate for you to cancel your session, because you are afraid of what might happen. BUT, I have had many situations where parents are amazed that their baby actually slept for a whole hour (or two!) while I took photos of them.

We will work with how your baby reacts

I have the heater on right next to your baby the whole time they are nudie. We can give them breaks to feed as much as they need to. When I do have babies that cry a lot, wrapping is the key to calming them down. I know that not all babies like to be wrapped, but you will be surprised at how they react once they are nice and snug. Our wraps are super cosy and stretchy and 99% of babies become quite comfortable.

If we have tried absolutely everything to calm your baby down and it just isn’t working, we can always reschedule your session which is no worry at all. (I can only remember this happening twice in the whole time I have been taking photos!)

Unwell rather than unsettled

If you feel that your baby is unwell rather than unsettled, please don’t hesitate to let us know. You are welcome to see a doctor to get the all clear before coming in. Baby’s health comes first!
