When should I book my newborn photography session?
I recommend getting in touch during your pregnancy so we can secure a session.
I will book you in a tentative date around 1 week after your due date. Though once baby arrives, you can let me know so we can change the date if need be. Newborn sessions are generally photographed within the first 2 weeks after birth, when babies are still very sleepy and naturally curl into those beautiful newborn positions.
If your baby is older than this, please don’t assume you’ve missed your opportunity. Every baby is different, and we can always discuss what will work best for your little one. If baby arrives a few weeks early, we generally have a little more time as premmie babies stay sleepy until after their 40 week due date.
If your baby is 6-8 weeks old, in this case we will focus on awake photos which are still absolutely beautiful!
What happens if my baby won’t settle?
This is one of the most common concerns parents have before their newborn session and it’s nothing to worry about.
Your baby doesn’t need to sleep perfectly for beautiful newborn photographs.
If your baby needs a feed, we stop.
If they need a cuddle, we cuddle.
If they need a nappy change or some time to settle, we take that time.
Some babies sleep through their session and some stay awake.
I’ll simply follow your baby’s cues and work at their pace.
Including parents and siblings
Your newborn photographs don’t have to be just about your baby.
I encourage parents and siblings to be included in the session so we can capture the relationships that make this time so special.
Sibling photographs are always approached gently and at your child’s pace. There’s no pressure for little ones to sit perfectly still or “perform” for the camera.
What should I bring to my newborn session?
Before your session, I’ll send you an information pack which includes what to expect, what to bring and what I have available in my client wardrobe. I have a selection of beautiful, neutral wraps and styling pieces available for your baby and you are most welcome to try on a few outfits before we start your family photos.
